CeraVe Healing Ointment is billed as a next-level skin salve.
January 25, 2016
By: Melissa Meisel
Treating dry, cracked skin in the dead of winter can be challenging. Creams, balms and ointments need to impart moisturization without a greasy feel. Enter CeraVe Healing Ointment, the latest creation from Valeant Pharmaceuticals. The product will debut this month, first in dermatologists’ offices, before entering the mass market by way of Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, Target and Rite Aid. “This is a truly transformational launch!” exclaimed John Reed, senior brand manager for CeraVe, at the event. Developed with dermatologists over a three-year period, the ointment contains a moisturizing complex that goes “above and beyond” to help protect and soothe extremely cracked, dry skin. “A little goes a long way,” added Mary Teryek, director, marketing skincare, Valeant Consumer Healthcare. “This formulation can also be used from head to toe and is carefully honed not to leave behind a tacky residue.” Also noteworthy is that CeraVe Healing Ointment has been accepted by the National Eczema Association and does not contain lanolin. The active ingredient, petrolatum, comprises 46.5% of the formula. According to Teryek, the product also features a unique blend of mineral waxes such as ozokerite and paraffin, along with dimethicone and hyaluronic acid. This new ointment combines “the ideal ratio” of three essential ceramides (1,3,6-ll), to help provide intense, long-lasting moisturization, even to eczema-prone skin. Like other CeraVe products, it is non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic. According to Reed, the Healing Ointment products range from a 0.35oz tube ($3.99) to a 12.0oz jar ($21.99) and are sure to garner a cult following this year for their multitasking usage and skin-friendly components. The brand recently expanded in the OTC segment with a Hydrocortisone Anti-Itch Cream. More info: www.cerave.com
